On September 18, the School of Mechanical Engineering, in collaboration with Hongjiang College, held the "First Research Course" for graduate students in Lecture Hall 201. This event featured presentations by Associate Dean Ye Yunxia, Associate Professors Zhu Hao and Li Pengfei, PhD representative Zhang Hang, and Master's representative Yang Zhiwei.

In the class, Teacher Ye Yunxia introduced the basic overview of the college and the key points to note during the graduate student training process. Using her high expectations for students and anecdotes from her life, she hoped that the new graduate students would not waste their three years and would always maintain the enthusiasm for progress that they had during their entrance exams. She also emphasized the importance of having a strong work ethic and a resilient character to face the various challenges that are inevitably encountered during graduate studies.

Zhu Hao shared his genuine insights on research, encouraging new students to accumulate knowledge, think critically, and maintain their original intentions while also paying attention to their physical and mental well-being. He offered three valuable pieces of advice to the newcomers: first, to adopt a pragmatic attitude towards research; second, to engage in frequent communication and avoid working in isolation; and third, to think independently and actively explore.Li Pengfei provided a detailed introduction from three aspects: adapting to the research group, personal development, and scientific exploration. He emphasized the importance of maintaining good relationships with mentors and peers, as well as prioritizing mental health.

Student Zhang Hang discussed his journey in writing his first paper and the thought process behind his patent creation. He shared his experiences on how to identify problems, analyze them in depth, and gradually find solutions. He also introduced some essential practical tools for research, providing valuable insights. Student Yang Zhiwei explained the basic tools for conducting scientific research as a graduate student and offered guidance on effective time management.

Through this event, the education of graduate students on scientific ethics and academic norms was strengthened. Additionally, it helped the new graduate students become more familiar with the tasks and methods involved in graduate-level research. This lays a solid foundation for them to better formulate their future research plans and carry out their research work.
