Research interests

1. Wire electrochemical micro machining (WEMM)and its application.

This program focuses on wire electrochemical micromachining and its application with single and multiple cathode.By adopting a metal wire as the tool, WEMM inherits the various advantages of micro ECM, and the design and manufacture of complex cathode is also avoided. It can prepare complex 3D metal micro-structures with simple feed path and become a promising micromachining technology. This project is dedicated to improve the machining accuracy and production efficiency of WEMM by using mass transport enhancement methods, such as wire travelling, anode vibration and hydrophilic wire cathode technology, and multiple wire cathodes.

2. Micro electrode fabrication and its application.

The research interest includes ultra-short pulse current micro electrochemical machining and micro flow field. By using an ultra-short pulse power, the locality of electrochemical machining was improved sharply. The CCD camera was used to observe the machining process andachieve thecoarse tool adjustment. Though multi-physics simulations, the influences of “bubble behavior” on the result of processing and wire travelling on mass transport were studied, then the optimal machining parameters were obtained by experimental study. At last, single micro electrode and electrode array were fabricated and were used as tools in electrochemical micro machining.
